Happy Thanksgiving

Today is the Feast of Persephone, the Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld.  Persephone, a Greek goddess known in her childhood by the name Kore (or Cora, meaning young maiden), was the only child of the union of her overprotective mother Demeter (Goddess of the Bountiful Harvest) and Zeus, the mighty King of the Olympians.  The Goddess Persephone was born when Demeter was Zeus's lover, long before his marriage to the Great Goddess Hera.  By all accounts  Persephone had an idyllic childhood, raised by her nurturing mother and played with her father's other daughters, the Greek goddesses Athena and Aphrodite.  Always a cheerful and compliant child, the little goddess Persephone was a parent's dream until she hit puberty and discovered sex. Demeter tried to control her but you know the rest from the story .  Not that the goddess Persephone sloughed off any of her responsibilities as the Queen of the Underworld. Apparently Persephone didn't sp

To Success in a Work setting

I went to professional development class and I want to share what I learn 1)       Trust Your First Impressions Forget everything your mother told you. When negotiating a contract with a potential vendor, you often can -- indeed, should -- judge a book by its cover. After all, everyone is on best behavior at the beginning of a business relationship. IF something look too good be true its usually is. 2)       Study the system. If you want to fit in, take mental notes. Addition to it watches how your co-workers interact, how they work and how they blow off steam. Studying and then imitating these nuances is essential. 3)       Make allies. Start with your boss and immediate teammates. But don't overlook colleagues and managers beyond your department. New hires that spend time internally networking within the company perform better are promoted faster and can expect to have a much stronger network than those who don’t. 4)       Get in the game. If you don't have enough work on

Extreme Important Issue

TO ALL BLOGGERS PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE: The Republicans AND the Democrats Judiciary Committee to create Stop Online Piracy Act. Under current practice, copyright owners such as TV networks and Hollywood studios reach out to websites to request that pirated videos be taken down. Under the new law, they could ask banks, Internet service providers and domain name registrars to stop doing business with websites that they believed were devoted to piracy. They could, for example, go straight to YouTube's domain registration company and demand that the entire YouTube website be taken down. And if the registrar resisted, the copyright owners would have the legal ability to take the registrar to court. WASHINGTON -- At a House Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, Democrats and Republicans joined together to voice support for legislation that would criminalize much of the activity that occupies the Internet. The bipartisan bill known as the  Stop Online Piracy Act  would establi

Happy Veterans Day

Happy Veteran Day everyone and thank to the valiant men and women of military for protecting from harm. Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, is an annual American holiday honoring military veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It is coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice. An armistice is a situation in a war where the warring parties agree to stop fighting. It is not necessarily the end of a war, but may be just a cessation of hostilities while an attempt is made to negotiate a lasting peace. It other words it mean a truce or a ceasefire. The U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. In pr

A Correlation Study on same couple and housing price in Liberal and Conservative areas

Image
I was reading the news when came a cross this article. A controversial new study suggests that in neighborhoods where extreme conservatism prevails, the presence of one more same-sex couple for every 1,000 households is linked to a one per cent drop in housing prices. In liberal neighborhoods, by contrast, researchers find the associated effect of gays and lesbians on housing prices to be positive. The study, which appears in the Journal of Urban Economics, draws data from more than 20,000 home sales, and controls for such  explanatory   factors as access to services, race, education, income, housing characteristics and quality of nearby schools. "Gays and lesbians feel that they're not welcome in certain areas," says Susane Leguizamon, a professor of economics at Tulane University. "This study suggests it's not just a feeling; people are responding to the presence of gays and lesbians in the ways we'd expect." Leguizamon suggests cohabi
