Sisters can by themselves is true for this group of mighty, warrior women were the feared Amazons. The Amazons were a race of woman warriors that has not only appeared in Greek mythology, but also appeared in other cultures. The Amazons became popular subjects for writers and artists.They were fierce enemies or allies to many heroes in the classical myths. From birth they were brought up to be warriors. Female children in the Amazons tribes were said to have their right breast seared during childhood to facilitate the use of a bow. This could be a myth due to the fact they could bind their breast to appear that they did to their enemies. Their main weapons were the bow, the librys (a double edged axe), and a crescent shaped shield. The Amazons were said to be able to tame and ride horses long before mainland Greece acquired the skill. The ability to ride on horseback gave them an obvious edge in battle and added mobility. I am sorry I not talking about myth in this post be this is important. The Republicans have lose their ever loving minds. They believe they can controlled young people (college students 18-21)'s right to vote.  According to Holly Bailey "Boosted by major electoral gains in state legislatures nationwide in the 2010 campaign, Republican lawmakers in 32 states are pushing measures that would require citizens to show a state identification or proof of citizenship to vote.  Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, GOP lawmakers are proposing new limits on college students who vote in the state, potentially eliminating a key base of electoral support for Democrats in the state ahead of the upcoming presidential election. In honor of Women's month, I chosen to honor one of mythology's greatest feminists. Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto. She is the elder twin of her brother, Apollo. She is Goddess of the Hunt, Childbirth and Moonlight. Artemis was born one day ahead of Apollo on the isle of Ortygia. Artemis' mother, Leto, gave birth to Artemis after a short and painless labor. But then Leto's labor for Apollo continued, with her contractions growing weak and painful. She then aided her mother to Delos. Moved to compassion, the infant goddess Artemis, born only a few minutes earlier, became her mother's midwife and delivered her twin brother Apollo with the help of the Goddess Eileithyia. You could say that, of all the Greek goddesses, the goddess Artemis was literally born to serve as a nurturer and protector! Mars, the Roman God of War, was one of the most worshipped and revered gods throughout ancient Rome. He was the son of Jupiter and Juno and according to legend, fathered Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, with the vestal virgin Rhea Silvia. Because of this “divine” lineage, the Roman people felt as though they were also the children of Mars and he was regarded as their protector. Mars held a special place in the Roman Pantheon not only for his patron influence, but because of the importance of military achievement in the republic and the Roman Empire, conquering Northern Africa and much of Europe and the Middle East.
