Creation Story: Greek Version part II

Image
The First Titanomachy Hades was very skilled in navigating under the earth, was able to lead them all into Tartarus (through a network of Underworld tunnels). There, imprisoned in the maximum-security zone, surrounded by huge bronze walls, and a lava moat, guarded fierce demons, were the Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires. Their guardian, KampĂȘ, was the most ferocious and fearsome monster in all of Tartarus, and even Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus initially shuddered with horror when they saw the infernal monster for the first time. However, the gods overcame their fear, and were able to sneak in. Zeus managed to talk to the Cyclopes Brontes, and convinced him to forge powerful weapons for him and his siblings behind KampĂȘ's back. The three Elder Cyclopes forged three incredibly powerful weapons: the Master Bolt (for Zeus), the Trident (for Poseidon), and the Helm of Darkness (for Hades). With these new weapons, Zeus destroyed KampĂȘ, and Poseidon shattered the chains of the Elder Cy

Creation Story: Greek version part I

Chaos was the beginning, the emptiness or nothingness from whence everything came. Now Chaos was a gloomy, soupy mist with all the matter in the cosmos just drifting around. Eventually a creator some named her Ananke, Goddess of Necessity, or God collected some of its matter and solidified into the earth, which developed a living personality. She called herself Gaea, the Earth Mother. After a period of time, the sky formed - a protective dome that was blue in the daytime and black at night, and named him Ouranos. Soon Chaos 'got a little creation-happy'. Water collected out of the mist of Chaos, pooled in the deepest parts of the earth and formed the first seas, which developed a consciousness - the god Pontus. Soon another dome came into being beneath the earth, but it was dark and murky, this was Tartarus, the Pit of Evil and Damnation. Then emerge the dark immortals: Nyx, Goddess of the Night and Erebus, God of Darkness and Mist. Erebus and Nyx wed and bore Hemera, Goddes

When I start to feature creation stories from around the world I want to show everyone that we are all connect to one another by a common thread. Now featuring Chinese creation in two parts. Pangu In the beginning there was darkness everywhere, and Chaos ruled. Within the darkness there formed an egg, and inside the egg the giant Pangu came into being. For aeons, safely inside the egg, Pangu slept and grew. When he had grown to gigantic size he stretched his huge limbs and in so doing broke the egg. The lighter parts of the egg floated upwards to form the heavens and the denser parts sank downwards, to become the earth. And so was formed earth and sky, Yin and Yang. Pangu saw what had happened and he was pleased. But he feared that heaven and earth might meld together again, so he placed himself between them, his head holding up the sky and his feet firmly upon the earth. Pangu continued to grow at a rate of ten feet a day for 18,000 years, so increasing the distance betw

In the Beginning: Genesis Edition

This month is about creation so I am starting with the best known creation story: Genesis. Genesis: in its first three chapters have a major impact on Judaism and Christianity through the ages. It show man fall from grace, the role of women, and reveal we have conflict and death today. If you read carefully you can see how old genesis and the echo of ancient pagan roots. In the beginning, about 3,000 years ago*, Jewish desert dwellers in what is present-day southern Israel told a story around campfires about the creation of the first man and first woman.  The story they told, and passed on to generations of future desert dwellers, described a pre-creation scene much like the desert landscape in which they daily struggled for existence.  From the dry desert dust the Creator forms a man and breaths life into him, and then places him in a beautiful oasis-like garden, abundant with fruits.  The Creator takes a personal interest in this first man, and sets about trying to find him a sui
